Ideation before Creation

We began the ideation process today and came up with numerous ideas each with their own merits and let downs.

Looking at a few different areas we found that when considering style we kept returning to the ideas of Steampunk and Cyberpunk aesthetics, we may take these into further consideration again once we have a more solid idea about where we wish to develop this project through it’s appearance as well as the action which will take place in the animation.

We found 3 ideas which stood out to us as being the best to use and we considered what we liked about all of them and how each of them would meet the requirements set out in the challenge we were issued. We enjoyed the idea of creating a nuclear apocalypse  and having an animated skeleton walk through the ruins of a destroyed suburb, the humour of this idea struck us as being quite promising. We also liked the idea where we would have to super humans battling in an urban setting and destroying the area around them as they fought, similar to the scene in ‘Hancock’ where Hancock (Will Smith) and Mary (Charlize Theron) battle each other in the middle of the city causing massive amounts of damage to their surroundings.

The idea we decided to use was, ‘The Ghost Train’ in which a spectral steam locomotive moves through a city and passes through a man leaving him scared and shaken. We liked this idea best as there were a lot of opportunities for style to be examined and taken to different extremes.

Creative Solutions: Project ; week 1

When starting this new topic we were given the problem of, ‘Things coming together,’ we were asked to create a 15 second film in 4 weeks using Maya. During week 1 we wanted to get through as many different ideas as possible in order to eliminate as many poor ideas from the process early on. We began fairly simply using a spider diagram to put as many ideas up as possible.

After getting as many ideas up as we possible could, (70 overall) we decided to start grouping our ideas and combining different things to create our favorites and reduce the number of over all ideas to choose from.

After singling out our top 15 ideas we put it to a vote to decide which ideas we would develop with concept art.

Thus far we are very happy with where this project is going and we are hoping to continue with as much ease for the duration of this project as we have in its’ initial stages.

Year 2: Week 0

The start of year 2 and we have begun the semester by working with the first years to complete a small 1 week project in which we were to once again acquaint ourselves with the ideation process. To begin this process we came up with 70-80 initial ideas before we began refining our thoughts into what would be the idea we presented to the rest of the class.

Mouse Mission to Moon

To begin our 15 second animation in Maya we went through a along ideation process in Maya. One of the final ideas we came up with was to do a mouse traveling to the moon in order to gather cheese for the Rodent population of earth.
